Problem

The 0.15-acre pocket park needed to be built with limited access and space to work and store materials. Belmont Avenue typically experiences heavy traffic comprised of pedestrians, cars, and bikers, which posed an issue as deliveries would block the road and sidewalks.

Solution

JKC engaged with the local alderman’s office early in the project to identify anticipated constraints. The work was planned to take place during lower traffic times and off-hours to limit exposure for all involved.

Despite changing subsurface conditions once site demolition began, which required extensive concrete demolition and removal, the playground was completed under budget and three weeks ahead of schedule with no lost time incidents.
